Great article, lots of cool insights here.

Another promising area for gamification is engineering tools. Games like Schenzen I/O have proven the effectiveness of learning low level coding and embedded electronics engineering in a simulated environment. What I think would be really cool, is if there was a game which taught you an engineering skill, but by the end, the game itself ends up being usable for real engineering tasks. Unfortunately Shenzen I/O for engineering is like Duolingo if you were learning a made up language rather than a real one.

I'm working now on a gamified 3d modelling app, which will involve specific achievements, progression and competitive elements, but by the end it will also be a viable 3d modeling tool for real world use cases.
